Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble scored a sensational success in 2008: The first performance in 300 years of Agostino Steffani’s opera Niobe, Regina di Tebe caused a stir throughout Europe.
The Royal Opera House in London just secured a felicitous package consisting of performance material from Edition Balthasar Neumann (EBN 26), its editor and conductor Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, and the staging by Lukas Hemleb for the coming season.
A cooperation with the Grand Théâtre Luxembourg then leads the work to a performance on the continent in December.
